Continuing the legacy of Japan’s 1926 gift of 1600 cherry blossom trees to the City of Philadelphia, the JASGP has launched a 5-year campaign to bring more flowering trees to community parks throughout the city.
In 2007, the JASGP achieved its goal of planting 1,000 cherry trees in Fairmount Park to supplement the 1,600 flowering trees donated by Japanese government as a gesture of friendship in 1926. But it hasn't stopped there -- the JASGP continues to beautify the Philadelphia landscape, this time with a 5-year plan that will bring cherry blossom trees to 10 community parks throughout the city.
