Aging Populations:
Neurogenerative Diseases, Psychiatric Therapies
|
|
Program Overview |
| Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinsons’
disease not only put stress on patients and their families, but also
cause monumental societal problems, particularly in countries with
aging populations. Both the capacity for and cost of care are serious
problems today, and will grow more severe in the coming years. Japan’s
demographic profile suggests that the crisis will be faced sooner than
in the United States, but without a doubt, both countries will have to
deal with it early in this century. In the meantime, companies in both
countries are seeking diagnostic and therapeutic approaches that may
serve to lessen the coming burden. The 8th Annual Philadelphia-Japan
Health Sciences Dialogue, featuring distinguished leaders in the field,
is designed to take stock of what is happening in Japan and the United
States to address this problem. |
