Cherry Blossom Kishu Lacquerware Tray

This beautiful Kishu lacquerware zen placemat tray was made for the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival 10th Anniversary Celebration. It measures 18 3/4" by 13". Only 10 were made, so available quantities are extremely limited!

Since the late 1600s, Kishu Lacquerware — known as one of the three main lacquer industries in Japan — has established a notable reputation for its high-quality products and the presence of skilled artisans. To complete the final products, the whole process takes numerous steps beginning with base construction, surface preparation and a repeated process of sanding, surface cleaning, coating, drying, finishing. Each step requires the superior skill of well-trained craftsmen.

Today, Kishu Lacquerware not only continues to offer its beauty of tradition, but also brings contemporary design and lifestyle which may be appreciated in different times and cultures.
