Luber Gallery

The Gilbert Luber Gallery, which opened in 1975, was the first gallery in Philadelphia to handle the works of Japanese artists -- the old as well as the contemporary. Shirley and Gilbert Luber made their first trip to Japan in the early 70's and started collecting prints as a hobby, which later developed into their opening the gallery. Once the gallery was established at 1921 Walnut Street, they returned to Japan every year to enhance their collection. In 1980, they moved to 1220 Walnut Stret, a much larger venue. The gallery continued and florished until 1999, when Gilbert passed away. Today, Shirley runs the gallery by appointment and from its website.
