One-night homestay hosts needed for Japanese executives!

UPDATE: The IVC now have confirmed hosts for all their gusts from Japan. Thanks to all who responded!

Share an American experience & learn about Japan!

From Nancy Gilboy of the International Visitors Center:

We've been asked again to arrange the "ultimate American experience" for a large group of business men and women from Japan - overnights in American homes!

Can you help? We're looking for friendly host families or individuals to host one, two or more men from Japan on Friday, November 21st to help them learn about American culture and life in the United States. (We already have hosts for the two women who are coming.)

This will be the highlight of their training program in the U.S. when they see first-hand how Americans live & relax on a typical Friday night and Saturday morning after a busy work week.

They have limited English language abilty, so it will be a lively and fun evening of laughter and sign language!

You can spend a relaxing Friday evening with them and a leisurely Saturday morning with your guest/s and include them in your typical weekend errands and activities.

They will have had a volunteer experience on Friday afternoon at the Independence Charter School. Volunteerism is an important part of American life but is not yet integrated into Japan's culture. So in addition to making friends for yourself and the U.S., your hosting serves as a perfect example of both volunteerism and citizen diplomacy.

By hosting one or more of them, you'll help them see American life directly from Americans, instead of from movies and TV. I know that each person who meets an American and gets to know the real "us" will return home to tell everyone that we're really not like the Americans portrayed in the media - and that we live wholesome lives much like their own. The positive and exponential impact of a cultural exchange like this is really amazing. AND, I bet they'll want to hear your views on last week's campaign and President-elect Obama!

If you'd like to share your typical Friday evening and Saturday morning with one, two or three executives from Japan, please give Jennifer McGinn a call at 215.683.0993 or email her to let her know.
What would your Friday night & Saturday morning look like? It's up to you! You can cook dinner at home and invite some friends over, or head out to your favorite Friday night restaurant to show them another aspect of American life. And on Saturday you can have a relaxing morning breakfast and take them with you as you shop and get ready for Thanksgiving.

At Noon on Saturday they head back to New York to resume their business training.

Here are the details:
- Friday, November 21st -
- Meet your Japanese guest/s at a Center City hotel between 5 and 6:30 p.m. -
- One night, overnight "homestay" hosting -
- At Noon on Saturday, drop off your guest/s at the Center City hotel -
- Contact Jennifer McGinn at 215.683.0993 or at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it -

I hope you'll share your Friday evening on November 21st and help us make friends and improve the U.S. image abroad. It's really what IVC is all about.

Jen and I look forward to hearing from you!
